Equine Science Center Director Honored by Somerset County
Karyn Malinowski, Ph.D., director of the Equine Science Center at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, has been honored by the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women.

New Brunswick, NJ - Karyn Malinowski, Ph.D., director of the Equine Science Center at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, has been honored by the Somerset County Commission on the Status of Women at its 17th annual Outstanding Women of Somerset County awards dinner today."On a daily basis, thousands of women who live and work in Somerset County enhance our quality of life by contributing to our communities in so many different and critically important ways," said Freeholder Deputy Director Jack M. Ciattarelli, commission liaison. "It is our pleasure each year, on behalf of the many thousands, to honor a select few for their extraordinary contributions."
In addition to being director of the Equine Science Center, Dr. Malinowski is associate director of the Rutgers New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station (NJAES) and Extension specialist in horse management with Cooperative Extension, a unit of NJAES. Her equine research and extension programs concentrate on improving the well-being and quality of life of the equine athlete while ensuring the vitality and viability of the equine industry, both statewide and nationally. She has received numerous awards for her work, including a leadership award from the American Youth Horse Council, a lifetime achievement award from the Rutgers Graduate School in 2007, and the American Horse Council's most prestigious national citation, the Van Ness Award, in 2001. She was named "Outstanding Equine Educator" by the Equine Nutrition and Physiology Society, also in 2001. And in 2008, she and her team were cited for their work on the 2007 New Jersey Equine Economic Impact Study by the Northeast Cooperative Extension Directors.
